Gear Review @ Mungo: 60k, 1day, no shops
FOOD - tortilla on bags, pnut butter in pilljar, chocolate, m/bars.=> not enough, choc melted, expensivem/bar was no better. Choc melted through pack, needed more
WATER/DRINKS. Carrying 2x750ml was enough. Never touched spare Restock at toilet block near ferry was bonus. Could carry a little & could take more. Coffee, milk powder & coffee worked ok.
COOKER: Trangia, 1/3 fuel, matches. Matches should be bagged.
BIKE Jamis on 60k x remote tar, flat pedals, flat bars. All worked well tho bars could be better ( drips & aeros) bar bag crowded crowded on the flat bars.
SPARES. No tube carried, unsafe.
BAGS. Bar bag good but vs. cables. Frame bag handy but crowded, need cha fl ok bag for phone, water, snacks. Seat bag. Worked well with extra clothes and kitchen.
Camp Gear. hammock, blanket & pad were not used but good to carry. Hammock needs new ropes.
LIGHTS. Used on the way back and felt heaps safer. Use always.
CAMERA. Used phone > rough but useful. > Go Pro better, safer.
CLOTHES. Lycra shorts, long to under t-shirt > excellent.
SHOES. Ridingin flats with joggers > excellent
EXTRAS. swimmers > excellent but need plastic bag to store wet.
PHONE. Carriedin pitch, no recharge. > used continually so need easyaccess/go pro, mount , hard case .Debit card app?
GENERAL. Basic system worked, safer with spare tube and handsfree filming system. Food & water were tight, light and about right. Jamis in flats was a hero. Starting earlier would be better (scenic, traffic, logistically). Did not miss music or reading. on S24 in new country.
***( Highlights were, the entire trip, ferry, being solo (separate from car drivers) boiling bibillyswimming and sustained me on the day. Visiting & positive feeling @ Dark Point historic site will stay longer.
Overall I felt really pleased with my fitness and gear. My butt was tender the last 5, but regular stops helped that & hand numbnes, & realty were essential just brief movement stops each 30min. NB programmed stops at features, ie: not riding passed, would be a great system.
Going overnight? More food, water supplies, power backup.
IN SHORT .
Go earlier.
Big lunch. Then a swing rest.
Program regular stops, for recoup, joy, learning.
Tune gearthrough doing.
Safety , spares & lights.
Consider adventure element (swim, fish, surf) butsuspect this would emerge from refining the basics.
