Never Give Up

Reading about a Facebook rider's failure to lift off during yesterday's ride.  He moaned about a series of small misfortunes that held him back.  He was Just having a whinge I guess,  but it got me thinking about my greatest personal topic; perseverance.

I allowed a bit of grit yesterday if you don't mind me saying.  My plan was to take the cycle path I discovered during my last ride in the area.  It exited in a housing estate,  but promised a great cycle through the Mambo Wetlands. But when I rode the path,  it exhausted itself just a kilometre away. So i turned back and mentioned my little frustration with a jovial dog walker but she gladdened my heart by giving me the heads up to ride the path that went "all the way to Salamander Bay". I thanked her and turned ahead again ... only to realise it wasn't true.  So I turned back again.  Interesting that She had cleared off on my third pass.

So,  I peddled off through the sad housing estate and the boxes made of ticky tacky to the road that passes between SB and the wetlands.  I rode past a few dog walkers, said hello,  got nothing back .. then came to this!

What is it with the dog walkers today?!

Anyhoo,  I didn't turn back and ask for directions that's for sure. I simply lugged my bike across and rode off.

Later,  I had a bit of a fail by kicking a good lot of sand into my front cliffs and gear selector.  I went slowly to a nearly toilet block and flushed the chain and co  with water.  Just then an old guy,  totally beaming,  commented about the sand,  how fun it must be to ride on the beach and urged me to give Fingal Spit a go. Here's a guy on his last legs,  alongside his wife on a walker frame,  both beaming with joy and urging me on like a a teenager. He had more gumption than all the lycra clad walkers, (need I add dog walkers?), pinching along the promenade, all rolled into one.

A positive attitude will put more life in your life.
