Fishers Hill Rd 30k x 2.5hr Ride
Got off at the crack by 10am today. This time with Just a small bar bag, fluro vest and rear light on.
Today's route took me along Fishers Hill Road via the rail line track and Horns Crossing Road. Its ironic that FHR is write rough for motor traffic, but enjoyable for cycling. The surface varied between rough asphalt to gravel and is essentially a series of rolling hills. Farming enterprises included dairy, beef, free range poultry and horses. I discovered this new Jersey calf along Summerhill Road, trying out her new legs. I'm certain it was a she because males are "culled" at birth. May be dairy free is a just lifestyle choice?I was pleased that the poultry were free range. Agriculture id's afairly conservative past time, so it was refreshing to see this being undertaken. The chookies certainly looked healthy and relaxed.
The riding was totally enjoyable. The only technical issue today was not Being able to select the smaller front cog. But a few turns of the thumb screw adjustment, fixed the problem. The cars generally behaved too. There were limited wildlife sightings, limited to a rowdy mob off choughs.
I rode past Paringa Park where Mia was working. I passed on the chance to "drop in" because it was a 9k round trip. Soon After I elected to return via Gresford Road. Yes, there were stretches without a border line cum cycle lane, but being Sunday the traffic was very light.
I went into Vacy sought on three two hour mark and the hand numbness was becoming quite persistent and took longer to shaker out. Tomorrow I plan to collect my me trekking bars and numbness will be a thing of the past. General leg stiffness resolved after a bit of walking and stretching, this resolved itself nicely.
Being cold and overcast, sweat production was limited and it seems that water and Gatorade put a lid on the hydration issue. Phew!
So, 25 to 30k on varied surfaces, plenty of hills, took 2.5hrs.
